July 2007

Happy July !

Summer is Here!

Hello Friends!

Summer is great!  With these long bright days the plants are all growing. The farmers markets are open and new crops of asparagus, lettuce, beet greens and strawberries are ready to pick!
The birds are mobbing the “Olympic” birdbath in our back yard trying to get into it to all swim all at the same time! Fifteen black birds tried to get in at once!  They splashed all the water out on to the lawn!  Silly birds!  They are so excited that it is summer and they all want to swim!

Little Dog is watching the seed nursery closely as seeds in some of pots did not come up! He started to sniff around and found that there were little holes dug into the soil in all the pots.  Oh no!
The new chipmunk family that lives under Mary’s studio have been eating all the sunflower and nasturtium seeds they can find!

So after that Mary went and got big, tall, flower pots to replace the nursery trays, she bought more seeds and replanted the sunflowers & nasturtiums.  Now we will see how they do. Little dog and big Dog are now checking them every morning to see when they will sprout.

Out and About

We had a wonderful time at Greely Park, Nashua, NH. It was a beautiful night with glorious perfect summer weather for the “Summerfun” program.  Everyone was in great spirits.  Lots of old friends and new friends galore came to sing and dance on the big lawn..

Later that week the dogs were happy to return to Grafton, MA Town Common one of their favorite spots. The thunderclouds blew away just in time for a beautiful evening.  It was a perfect suppertime concert. Everyone sat on their picnic blankets singing and laughing.  For the very first time Miss Amanda provided ice cream for everyone after the show!  It was a big hit! The dogs were especially happy! After the concert they both cuddled up in the back of the car and snored loudly the whole way home!

June 21st was the first day of summer!  Yippee! We went to the HUB Family Support Center to help celebrate the opening of their new space in the McConnell Center in Dover, NH.  It was a packed house of happy singing families! And yup, more ice cream!  The dogs are getting plump!!

On a beautiful Saturday morning we visited Dyer Library in Saco where we kicked off the Maine summer reading program, “Get a Clue at Your Library!” I debuted my new theme song “Get a Clue!” about reading books and solving mysteries.   The dogs wanted to solve a mystery by sniffing all the books in the children’s department! Silly dogs!

On a Sunday afternoon under sunny skies we traveled to Smolak Farms in North Andover, MA for their big annual Strawberry Festival. It was a perfect day for singing and picking strawberries!  Big Dog wanted to pick bananas and strawberries! His favorite fruit on his breakfast cereal is sliced bananas so he wanted to make sure he got some fresh bananas to go with his strawberries! He was disappointed to not find any banana trees at Smolak Farms.  But not for long!  We all went and had strawberry short cake after the concert so the dogs were happy and sleepy on the drive home, snoring like little freight trains!

The dogs and I looking forward to seeing all of you this summer and we can’t wait to sing and laugh with you all again!
